Peaceful & Affordable
Tucked into the historic Haute-Vienne department, Limoges is one of those cities that quietly slips under most expat radars — and that is exactly part of its magic.
This is a city of fire and clay. Famous around the world for its exquisite porcelain (and centuries earlier for its medieval enamel work), Limoges blends a deeply rooted heritage with one of the most affordable lifestyles you can find in France today.

A calm city with a youthful pulse
About 130,000 residents call Limoges home, with another 200,000 in the surrounding metro. It has a grounded, serene atmosphere — but with 16,500 students on its streets, the city always feels alive. It is established without ever feeling sleepy.

A high-end life at half the cost
This is where Limoges truly stands apart. It is consistently more affordable than nearly any comparable city in France — from groceries (you are in the heart of cattle country here, so high-quality Limousin beef is a real perk) to housing to everyday outings. A single person can comfortably manage on €250–€350 a month for groceries, and a lovely lunch in the city center runs around €14.50.
For the full breakdown — train times to Paris, transit, healthcare, parks, and the famous porcelain workshops where you can actually try your hand at casting — head over to the Part 1 video.

What's coming in Part 2
Next week we go deeper into Limoges' very affordable housing market, the arts and culture scene, local jobs and salaries, education, and more of this calm corner of France's hidden gems.
You will be surprised by just how economical this city really is. Make sure your notification bell is on so you don't miss it!
À bientôt!
